even with those four numbers there are countless possible combinations good luck with figuring out which one is the right one you punk
It’s pretty likely that it’s a four digit number, and as there are four digits chosen there, that means that there cannot be any repetition. This mean that there are:
n!/(n-4)! possible orders. As ‘n’ is 4 (number of digits available). 4!/0! which becomes 4x3x2x1/1 which simplifies to 24. That means that there are 24 possible combinations of codes. This would take you about two or three minutes to input all possible codes.
Unless an alarm goes off if you don’t get it right in 3 tries
*straightens calculator again*
Kick the fucking door in
well ‘technically’ the code is most likley 1970. statistically, a majority of people, when told to choose a 4 digit code will choose their birth year. and this key pad is obviously a few years old to put it nicely, thats most likley it.
some sherlock holmes shit just went down over here
No, no, no. Don’t base your deductions of psychology. Let’s talk chemistry. When you first press a button, there’s more of the natural oils on your skin, and therefore it wears down the numbers on the keys faster. Obviously 0 is the first one, then. Try 0791 first.
it got better
and this is why the sherlock fandom could either rule the world or end it….
Close, but not quite, I think. People will almost always choose a number they can remember. What’s memorable about 0791? Try 0719 - a birthday, 19th of July. That is more likely.
19th July is Benedict Cumberbatch’s Birthday…..
IIt’s official, the Sherlock fandom is the scariest fandom on tumblr.
I can pretty much confirm that the code is 1970. Also this is quite likely a key pad to gain entrance into a building.
If you look at the pattern of wear on the numbers, the 1 is worn evenly around the whole button telling us that it was punched straight on. The 9 is worn around the top edge, the 7 around the top left part, and the 0 is mostly worn away completely telling us that the most friction or drag was applied in a downward swipe.
Therefore, we can conclude that:
The code is 1970. Also the keys are worn in a way that suggests the key pad was at a lower angle than the average shoulder height. Most building key pads are mounted at a lower angle to accommodate a wide variety of heights. And, as the angle of wear on the 9 and 7 suggest, the code is being punched in by mostly people who are right handed.
If I were to hazard a guess about the location of this key pad I would say it had to be in the US, most probably New York (or possibly somewhere in California). Because of the level of the corrosion of the metal, it would need to be near the ocean. Key pad entrances are not generally used on single story buildings and this is most likely a 4 story or higher building. I would also say it is a residential building because the code was not changed for a very long time and businesses are usually more careful about security. The technology and wear of the keypad tells us that it was installed sometime in the later 20th century. I would start by looking for residential condominiums or apartments built in between 1950 and 2000 in New York City. Again, this last part is just a guess and a way to amuse myself on a dull sunday afternoon.
